Mobile workstation with dual storage

The Lenovo ThinkPad P71 is a 17.3 inch mobile workstation built around an Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor that reaches 3.80 GHz. It ships with 16GB of DDR4 memory and a 256GB SSD paired with a 1TB hard drive. The FHD IPS display shows 1920 x 1080 resolution and the NVIDIA Quadro M620M provides certified graphics. Windows 7 Professional comes pre-installed.

ISV certification and security features

Over 100 independent software vendor certifications mean the system is tested for professional CAD and rendering applications. A fingerprint reader and a secure chip add hardware-based authentication and data protection. The spill-resistant keyboard includes a TrackPoint pointing device for precise cursor control without leaving the home row.

Serviceable design with legacy OS

The chassis allows straightforward access to memory slots and both storage drives for upgrades or replacements. Windows 7 Professional is a legacy operating system that no longer receives security updates, so plan an OS migration before connecting to sensitive networks. Driver support for the Quadro M620M on newer Windows versions should be verified prior to installation.

Questions about this item

When will the 256 GB SSD or 1 TB HDD need replacement?

Both drives are user-replaceable; the SSD uses an M.2 slot and the HDD a standard 2.5-inch bay, so either can be swapped when capacity or health requires it.

What thermal limit appears first during extended heavy workloads on the i7-7700HQ?

The processor turbo drops from 3.80 GHz once its temperature target is reached, and the Quadro M620M 2 GB GPU will also throttle if the shared heatsink saturates.

How loud and hot does the P71 get when running all day?

Under continuous load the dual-fan system spins up audibly; the keyboard deck and bottom surface become warm, and the 17.3 inch chassis moves noticeable airflow from the rear vents.
