Mobile workstation for 3D and multitasking

The Lenovo ThinkPad P71 is a 17.3 inch mobile workstation built for professionals who need ISV-certified stability across more than 100 applications. It combines an Intel Core i7-7820HQ processor with NVIDIA Quadro M620M graphics, 8GB of DDR4 memory and a 4TB SSD. Windows 7 Professional comes pre-installed.

Sustained performance with Quadro graphics

The quad-core processor reaches 3.90 GHz turbo frequency to maintain throughput during extended rendering or simulation tasks. The Quadro M620M with 2GB VRAM provides certified drivers for CAD and DCC workloads rather than short-burst gaming peaks. The 4TB SSD keeps large project files local so the CPU and GPU stay fed without external storage bottlenecks.

Thermals and power in daily use

The 17.3 inch chassis allows airflow for the i7-7820HQ and discrete GPU under continuous load. The FHD IPS anti-glare display runs at 1920 x 1080 without touch-layer power draw. Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8265 handles connectivity while the fingerprint reader and secure chip add authentication without measurable thermal impact.

Questions about this item

How loud or hot does the i7-7820HQ get when the P71 runs all day?

The quad-core i7-7820HQ runs at 2.90 GHz base and 3.90 GHz turbo with 8 MB cache; the 17.3-inch chassis has room for dual fans that keep the workstation-class CPU and Quadro M620M GPU within safe thermal limits during sustained loads.

What must I already own for this 4 TB SSD, 8 GB DDR4 P71 to work out of the box?

It ships with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit installed on the 4 TB SSD, 8 GB of DDR4-2400 memory, and an Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8265 card, so only a power outlet is required to start working.

Will the P71’s Quadro M620M and legacy ports drive my older monitors and docking station?

The M620M with 2 GB VRAM supports external displays via the workstation’s native video outputs, and the ISV-certified platform maintains compatibility with ThinkPad docks and peripherals you may already use.
