Mobile workstation 17.3" FHD Xeon 32GB

The Lenovo ThinkPad P71 is a 17.3 inch mobile workstation with a 1920 x 1080 IPS display. It runs Windows 10 Pro on an Intel Xeon E3-1505M v6 processor with 32GB DDR4 memory at 2400 MHz. Storage combines a 1TB PCIe NVMe SSD and a 1TB hard drive. Graphics are handled by an NVIDIA Quadro P3000 card. A fingerprint reader and secure chip support system access control.

Suits ISV-certified CAD rendering not gaming

This workstation suits engineers and designers running ISV-certified applications for 3D rendering or complex multitasking. The Quadro P3000 GPU and Xeon processor target professional stability rather than high frame rates. Buyers who want a thin ultrabook or a pure gaming laptop should look elsewhere. The non-touch FHD screen and 17.3 inch chassis prioritise workspace over portability.

Deciding spec Quadro P3000 6GB professional GPU

The single specification that decides fit is the NVIDIA Quadro P3000 with 6GB video memory. This professional GPU drives ISV-certified workloads in CAD, DCC and visualisation software. Consumer GeForce cards lack the driver certification and ECC memory support these workflows require. If your software stack demands certified Quadro drivers, this part meets that requirement; if it does not, a consumer GPU may cost less.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 32GB DDR4 configuration or look for a 64GB option?

This unit ships with 32GB DDR4 at 2400 MHz; the 32GB figure is the installed capacity.

What does the 4.0 GHz turbo frequency mean when the Xeon E3-1505M v6 is under load?

The quad-core Xeon can reach 4.0 GHz on active cores when thermal headroom allows.

How does the PCIe NVMe interface affect the 1TB SSD speed in practice?

The 1TB SSD uses PCIe NVMe, so sequential reads and writes run at full NVMe bandwidth.
