ThinkPad T440 refurbished laptop

This Lenovo ThinkPad T440 is a refurbished 14.0-inch laptop that ships with Windows 10 Home and an Intel Core i5-4300U processor. It carries 4GB of memory and a 320GB hard drive, and it has no optical drive. The unit is suited to buyers who need a basic mobile workstation for office tasks.

Sustained-load behaviour

Under continuous load the dual-core i5-4300U will throttle to keep within its thermal envelope, so extended compiles or heavy multitasking run slower than short bursts. The 4GB memory limit forces frequent paging to the 320GB hard drive, which further reduces responsiveness during long sessions. Buyers who want more storage or sustained multi-core speed should look elsewhere.

Installation and common issues

The laptop arrives with Windows 10 Home pre-installed, so initial setup follows the standard out-of-box experience. A Microsoft Windows 11 Pro upgrade path is noted by the supplier, though the 4GB memory may make that transition sluggish. No optical drive is present, so any recovery media must be supplied on USB.

Questions about this item

How loud and hot does the ThinkPad T440 get when the Intel Core i5-4300U runs all day?

The dual-core i5-4300U runs at modest power, so the T440 stays relatively cool and the fan rarely spins up to an intrusive level during typical office workloads.

What must I already own to use this T440 with its 4 GB of memory and 320 GB hard drive?

Only a power adapter with the correct Lenovo tip; the laptop ships with Windows 10 Home installed and no optical drive, so no discs are required.

Will the 14.0-inch T440 work alongside my older ThinkPad docking station?

The T440 uses a rectangular side docking connector that differs from the round port on earlier models, so legacy docks will not mate with this unit.
