14-inch business laptop

The Lenovo ThinkPad T460 is a thin-and-light notebook built for mobile professionals who need a 14.0-inch display, Windows 10 Pro and Intel Core i5 6300U performance in a black chassis. It targets users who value portability and enterprise manageability over raw graphics power. Buyers who want a dedicated GPU or a larger screen should look elsewhere.

HDMI and Mini DisplayPort outputs

The single HDMI port and single Mini DisplayPort let you drive two external monitors without a dock, so presentations and multi-window workflows become practical on the road. Intel HD Graphics 520 handles desktop extension and video playback, but it cannot accelerate modern 3D workloads. The ports add flexibility for office setups that rely on legacy projectors or newer displays.

Standard SODIMM slots and SSD bay

Memory upgrades use common DDR3 SODIMMs and the specification notes support up to 32 GB, so adding sticks is straightforward for experienced technicians. The 256 GB SSD sits in a 2.5-inch bay that is accessible after removing the bottom cover, though the internal battery must be disconnected first. Inexperienced users often forget the battery step and risk shorting the board.

Questions about this item

Will the 8 GB DDR3 memory need to be upgraded to reach the 32 GB maximum supported?

The system ships with 8 GB DDR3 and supports up to 32 GB, so you can add modules later if workloads demand more capacity.

What limits sustained performance on the Core i5-6300U during long sessions?

The dual-core 2.40 GHz processor with 3.00 GHz turbo will hit its thermal ceiling first, causing clock speeds to drop under continuous heavy load.

How loud and hot does the 14.0 inch ThinkPad T460 get when running all day?

The thin-and-light chassis relies on a single fan to cool the Intel HD Graphics 520 and CPU, so expect noticeable fan noise and warm surfaces during extended use.
