ThinkPad T460 14.0" FHD Laptop

The Lenovo ThinkPad T460 is a 14.0 inch FHD laptop powered by an Intel Core i7-6500U dual-core processor at 2.50 GHz with turbo up to 3.10 GHz. It comes with 16GB of DDR3 memory and a new 2TB 2.5" SATA SSD. Windows 10 Home 64-bit is pre-installed.

Who this suits and who should look elsewhere

This laptop suits buyers who need a portable 14.0 inch business machine with a high-resolution screen, 16GB of RAM and a large 2TB SATA SSD. It is not for users who require a touchscreen, discrete graphics or memory beyond the 32GB maximum supported by the two slots.

Deciding specification: 2TB SATA SSD

The single specification that decides fit is the 2TB 2.5" SATA SSD. It provides substantial capacity on the SATA interface, so the drive will only work in systems that accept a 2.5 inch SATA storage device.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 2TB SATA SSD and what step do people miss?

The 2TB SSD fits the 2.5-inch SATA bay; the step people miss is securing the caddy screws before sliding the drive fully into the connector.

What maintenance or replacement will the 16GB DDR3 memory need later?

The two DDR3 slots hold 16 GB now and support up to 32 GB total; future maintenance means adding matching DDR3 modules if more capacity is required.

What limit appears first on the Intel HD Graphics 520 during sustained workloads?

The Intel HD Graphics 520 shares system memory and thermal headroom with the dual-core i7-6500U, so graphics throttling arrives before the CPU hits its 3.10 GHz turbo ceiling.
