ThinkPad T460 14-inch Ultrabook

The Lenovo ThinkPad T460 is a 14.0-inch laptop built around a dual-core Intel Core i7-6600U processor running at 2.60 GHz. It ships with 16 GB of DDR3 memory and a 128 GB solid-state drive. The 1920 x 1080 FHD display uses LED backlighting and does not support touch input. Windows 10 Home is pre-installed on the device.

Enterprise connectivity and expansion

Three USB 3.0 ports, Gigabit Ethernet, and Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8260 handle wired and wireless networking. Video output is provided through one HDMI port and one Mini DisplayPort for external monitors. An SD card reader and a SIM card slot add removable-media and mobile-broadband options without requiring extra adapters.

Charger and battery included

The package supplies the AC charger and the internal battery so the system can run immediately. A 720p webcam supports video calls without additional peripherals. The integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 uses shared system memory, which limits performance in modern 3D titles or GPU-accelerated workloads. Buyers needing discrete graphics or larger local storage should consider other models.

Questions about this item

Will the Intel Core i7-6600U throttle under sustained heavy workloads?

The dual-core Skylake processor runs at 2.6 GHz with 3 MB L3 cache and relies on the Ultrabook chassis for cooling, so extended full-load tasks will hit thermal limits before the CPU can maintain peak frequency.

How loud and hot does the T460 get when left running all day?

The carbon-fibre lid and magnesium body dissipate heat from the integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 and 16 GB DDR3 memory, but fan noise rises noticeably during continuous use and the keyboard deck becomes warm to the touch.

What must I already own to connect external displays to the HDMI and Mini DisplayPort outputs?

You need an HDMI cable for the full-size HDMI port and a Mini DisplayPort cable or adapter for the second video output; both ports are driven by the Intel HD Graphics 520 engine.
