Business laptop for mobile professionals

The Lenovo ThinkPad T470 is a 14.0" HD laptop built for everyday office work and travel. It runs Windows 10 Pro on a dual-core Intel Core i7-7500U processor with a turbo frequency of 3.50 GHz. The system includes 32GB DDR4 memory and a new 500GB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 620 handles standard display output.

Thermals and power in daily use

The ultra-low-voltage processor keeps heat and fan noise low during typical productivity tasks such as document editing, web browsing and video calls. The 1366 x 768 non-touch screen draws modest power, helping battery life on the move. No mechanical hard drive is fitted, so the only moving part under load is the cooling fan.

Build integration and expansion limits

Memory is maxed at 32GB across two slots, so no further RAM upgrades are possible. The single M.2 NVMe drive occupies the primary storage bay; buyers who want more storage must replace the drive rather than add a second one. The HD panel and integrated graphics suit office docks and external monitors, but the platform does not support discrete GPU upgrades.

Questions about this item

How do I add storage to the ThinkPad T470 and which step is often missed?

The laptop uses an M.2 NVMe drive; the step often missed is confirming the slot supports PCIe NVMe before buying a replacement.

What component will likely need replacement first on this T470?

The internal battery will need replacement before the soldered 32 GB DDR4 or the 500 GB NVMe SSD.

What thermal limit appears first during long workloads on the Core i7-7500U?

The dual-core 2.70 GHz processor reaches its 3.50 GHz turbo ceiling and then throttles under sustained load.
