Business ultraportable with 14-inch WQHD display

The Lenovo ThinkPad T470s is a 14-inch business laptop built around an Intel Core i7-7600U processor running up to 3.9GHz. It ships with 12GB of DDR4 memory and a 512GB SSD, plus Windows 10 Pro pre-installed. The matte IPS panel shows 2560 x 1440 resolution, and the chassis weighs between 2 and 2.9 lbs in silver.

Thunderbolt 3 over USB-C limited to 40 Gbps

The single Thunderbolt 3 port delivers up to 40 Gbps of bandwidth, which is four times the data rate of USB 3.1 Gen 1 and doubles video bandwidth for external displays. Real-world SSD transfers reach around 200 MB/s, while legacy mechanical drives top out at 50 to 120 MB/s. Bluetooth 4.1 handles short-range peripherals, and the four USB ports cover older accessories.

Soldered memory and fixed panel limit upgrades

The 12GB DDR4 allocation is not user-expandable because the modules are soldered to the board, so buyers who want more memory must choose a different configuration at purchase. The 512GB SSD can be swapped, but the 14.0-inch non-touch WQHD panel and integrated graphics are permanent. Fingerprint and smart-card readers work out of the box with Windows Hello and enterprise login systems.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 12GB DDR4 configuration or a different capacity?

This unit ships with 12GB DDR4 soldered on board; there is no second SO-DIMM slot, so the capacity cannot be changed after purchase.

What does the 3.9GHz turbo figure mean once the i7-7600U is inside the chassis?

The processor can reach 3.9GHz on a single core for short bursts; sustained speeds will be lower because the slim cooling system limits how long it can hold that frequency.

What does the Thunderbolt 3 port actually cap at in real use?

The USB-C port supports Thunderbolt 3 at up to 40 Gbps, so external SSDs, docks or dual 4K displays run at that ceiling provided the cable and device also support it.
