ThinkPad T480 14.0" FHD business laptop

The ThinkPad T480 is a 14.0" FHD business laptop powered by an Intel Core i5-7200U dual-core processor running at 2.50 GHz with a 3.10 GHz turbo frequency. It ships with 8GB DDR4 memory across two slots and a new 2TB 2.5" SATA SSD. No operating system is installed.

Upgrade from dual-core 7th Gen U-series systems

This unit replaces older dual-core ultrabooks that max out at 8GB RAM or smaller SATA drives. The jump is worth it when you need the 32 GB memory ceiling and the 2TB SSD capacity in a chassis that still fits a 14" 1920 x 1080 non-touch panel. Buyers who need discrete graphics or a newer CPU generation should look elsewhere.

2TB SATA SSD and 32 GB memory ceiling

The 2TB SATA SSD provides ample room for large local datasets and multiple virtual machines. The 8GB DDR4 configuration handles typical office workloads and light multitasking, while the two slots allow expansion to 32 GB for heavier compilation or database tasks. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 620 limits 3D and video-encoding performance.

Questions about this item

What size and interface does the internal drive bay use for the 2 TB SSD?

The 2 TB SSD is a 2.5 inch SATA drive, so the bay accepts a standard 2.5 inch SATA storage device.

Which screws or latches must be removed to reach the two DDR4 memory slots?

Remove the bottom case screws, lift the base cover, and the two DDR4 SO-DIMM slots are exposed; the common mistake is forgetting the hidden screw under the centre rubber foot.

When will the 8 GB DDR4 memory need to be expanded, and what is the limit?

Expand when workloads exceed 8 GB; the board supports up to 32 GB total across the two slots.
