Business laptop with 24GB memory

The ThinkPad T480s is a 14-inch business laptop running Windows 7 Professional on an Intel Core i5-8250U processor with a base clock of 1.60 GHz and a maximum turbo of 3.40 GHz. It provides 24 GB of DDR4 memory and a 500 GB SSD in a chassis weighing between 2 and 2.9 lbs. The matte IPS display delivers a 1920 x 1080 resolution.

Thunderbolt 3 at 40 Gbps shared with USB-C

Thunderbolt 3 on this system operates at up to 40 Gbps through a USB-C port, delivering four times the data bandwidth and twice the video bandwidth of other port types while also supplying power. The same port handles USB 3.1 traffic, so total throughput depends on the mix of connected devices. Bluetooth 4.1 handles short-range wireless peripherals.

Verify Windows 7 support

Windows 7 Professional no longer receives security updates, so confirm your software environment can operate safely on this OS. The integrated WWAN module provides 4G LTE connectivity; check that its supported frequency bands match your carrier's network before ordering. The fingerprint reader and ThinkShutter webcam cover are included for local authentication and privacy.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 24GB DDR4 configuration or the 16GB DDR4 version mentioned in the highlights?

The 24GB DDR4 option gives you more headroom for multitasking and virtual machines, while the 16GB DDR4 version still handles typical office workloads smoothly.

What does the i5-8250U 1.60 GHz up to 3.40 GHz figure mean for daily performance?

The processor runs at 1.60 GHz base and can boost to 3.40 GHz on demand, so routine tasks stay responsive and heavier bursts finish faster.

What does the Thunderbolt 3 USB-C port capped at 40 Gbps actually deliver?

It provides up to 40 Gbps data transfer, supports dual 4K video output, and can charge the laptop through the same cable.
