Ready for Business Travel

The ThinkPad T480s is a 14-inch laptop built for professionals who need a durable, secure machine running Windows 7 Professional. It weighs between two and 2.9 pounds and passes 21 MIL-SPEC tests for reliability in harsh environments. The matte IPS display resolves at 1920 by 1080 and the chassis includes a fingerprint reader plus a physical webcam cover for privacy.

Suits Mobile Workers, Not Heavy Creators

This unit fits itinerant staff, field engineers and anyone maintaining a Windows 7 software stack who values integrated WWAN connectivity and Thunderbolt expansion. Buyers who want more storage than the single 2 TB SATA drive provides, or who need a touchscreen, discrete graphics or a newer operating system, should look elsewhere.

Storage Protocol Is SATA

The 2 TB solid-state drive communicates over the SATA interface rather than a faster protocol, which caps sustained transfer rates at the SATA ceiling. Memory is 16 GB of DDR4 soldered to the board, so capacity cannot be increased after purchase.

Questions about this item

What does the 3.4 GHz boost clock mean when the i5-8250U is inside the T480s?

The processor can reach 3.4 GHz for short bursts, giving quick response in office apps and light multitasking before thermal limits bring speeds back toward the 1.6 GHz base.

What does the Thunderbolt 3 port on this T480s actually deliver?

The USB-C Thunderbolt 3 connection supports up to 40 Gbps data, dual 4K video bandwidth and power delivery through a single cable.

Will a standard 2.5-inch drive fit in this T480s?

No — the 2 TB SSD uses an M.2 SATA form factor, so there is no 2.5-inch bay or caddy included.
