A business laptop with an Intel Core i5-8250U processor, 8GB DDR4 memory, 1TB NVMe solid-state drive, 14-inch IPS FHD matte display, fingerprint reader, Thunderbolt, and 4G LTE connectivity
The Lenovo ThinkPad T480s is a new 14.0-inch business laptop powered by an Intel Core i5-8250U processor running at 1.60 GHz with a maximum turbo of 3.40 GHz. It ships with Windows 10 Pro 64-bit, 8 GB of DDR4 memory and a 1 TB PCIe NVMe solid-state drive. The matte IPS panel delivers a 1920 x 1080 resolution, and integrated Intel UHD 620 graphics handle everyday visual tasks. A fingerprint reader and webcam cover add hardware-level security for travelling workers.
The single Thunderbolt 3 port provides up to 40 Gbps of bandwidth, four times the data throughput of a standard USB-C connection and twice the video bandwidth. It also supplies power, so one cable can drive a dock, external display and charging simultaneously. Bluetooth 4.1 handles short-range peripherals, while the built-in 4G LTE WWAN module keeps the system online when Wi-Fi is unavailable. The 8 GB of memory is soldered and cannot be upgraded, so buyers who need more RAM must choose a different configuration.
Weighing between 2 and 2.9 lbs, the T480s has passed 21 MIL-SPEC tests for shock, vibration, temperature and humidity extremes. The SSD uses a standard M.2 PCIe NVMe form factor, allowing storage upgrades without proprietary parts. The UltraNav touchpad and backlit keyboard are spill-resistant, but liquid damage beyond light splashes is not covered by the ruggedisation tests. Installation of a larger drive requires only a Torx screwdriver and careful ribbon-cable routing.

The T480s ships with both 8 GB DDR4 memory and a 1 TB PCIe NVMe solid-state drive already installed, so there is no separate choice to make between them.
The quad-core processor runs at 1.60 GHz base and can boost to 3.40 GHz, letting it handle multi-tab browsing, office suites and light content creation without slowing down.
The USB-C Thunderbolt 3 connection supports up to 40 Gbps, enough bandwidth for dual 4K monitors or high-speed NVMe enclosures while also delivering power to the laptop.
