Business laptop with 1TB NVMe storage

The Lenovo ThinkPad T480s ships new with Windows 7 Professional, an Intel Core i5-8250U processor at 1.60 GHz up to 3.40 GHz, 16 GB DDR4 memory and a 1 TB PCIe NVMe SSD. A 14.0" IPS FHD matte display at 1920 x 1080, fingerprint reader, Bluetooth 4.1 and integrated 4G LTE WWAN complete the mobile workstation package.

Installation and common issues

No internal assembly is required; the system arrives fully configured and ready to boot. The 64-bit Windows 7 Pro image may lack native USB 3.1 or Thunderbolt 3 driver support, so a clean install of a newer OS is often needed. Soldered memory prevents RAM upgrades, and the single NVMe slot limits storage expansion.

Pre-purchase checks

Verify that your essential applications run on Windows 7 Professional 64-bit or plan an OS migration before deployment. Confirm that 16 GB of non-upgradable memory meets your workload requirements. Ensure the 1 TB NVMe capacity is sufficient, as no 2.5" bay or second M.2 slot is present. Check that Thunderbolt 3 peripherals and WWAN SIM provisioning are compatible with your environment.

Questions about this item

How do I confirm the fingerprint reader is active after setting up the ThinkPad T480s?

Open Windows 7 Professional settings and look for the fingerprint enrolment option; a successful scan lights the reader LED and lets you log in with a touch.

What accessories come in the box with the T480s and what must I source separately?

The laptop ships with its 14 inch IPS FHD matte display, 1TB PCIe NVMe SSD, 16GB DDR4 RAM, backlit keyboard, ThinkPad UltraNav touchpad, webcam with ThinkShutter, 4G LTE WWAN module, Bluetooth 4.1 and four USB ports; add a Thunderbolt 3 cable or dock if you need 40 Gbps external bandwidth.

Which configuration should I choose between the i5‑8250U at 1.60 GHz base and the 3.4 GHz turbo for typical office work?

The single 8250U processor handles both speeds automatically; Windows 7 Pro 64‑bit and Intel UHD 620 graphics will boost to 3.4 GHz when workloads demand it, so no separate version selection is required.
