Business ultraportable for secure productivity

The Lenovo ThinkPad T480s is a 14.0" mainstream laptop built for professionals who need Windows 7 Professional on a lightweight platform. An Intel Core i5-8250U processor with 8 GB DDR4 memory and a 256 GB SSD handles office workloads and multitasking. The 1920 x 1080 IPS matte display, fingerprint reader and backlit keyboard support long days away from a desk.

Thermals noise and power in daily use

The 1.60 GHz quad-core chip boosts to 3.40 GHz while Intel UHD 620 integrated graphics drive the 14" panel without a discrete GPU. Passive cooling zones and low-voltage silicon keep surface temperatures comfortable during typical document, browser and video tasks. Fan activity stays subdued under normal loads, preserving the quiet environment expected in meeting rooms.

Build integration and expansion

Thunderbolt over USB-C delivers up to 40 Gbps for docks, external storage or dual 4K displays through a single cable. Four USB ports, Bluetooth 4.1 and a 4-in-1 card reader cover legacy and modern peripherals alike. The 21 MIL-SPEC test baseline means the chassis tolerates vibration, shock and temperature extremes that would challenge consumer-grade ultraportables. Not suited for buyers who want a touchscreen or discrete graphics.

Questions about this item

How do I install the M.2 256GB SSD and what step is often missed?

The 256GB SSD uses an M.2 slot; the step people miss is securing the retention screw after seating the drive.

What maintenance will the 8GB DDR4 memory need later?

The 8GB DDR4 is soldered, so it cannot be upgraded; only the SSD and battery are user-replaceable.

At what point does the Core i5-8250U hit its thermal limit under sustained load?

The 1.60 GHz base clock boosts to 3.4 GHz until the cooling system reaches its capacity, then clocks drop.
