Business ultraportable for mobile professionals

The Lenovo ThinkPad T480s is a 14.0" business laptop built around an Intel Core i7-8550U processor running at 1.80 GHz with a maximum turbo of 4.0 GHz. It comes with 12 GB of DDR4 memory and a 256 GB SSD. The IPS display delivers 1920 x 1080 resolution on a matte panel. Integrated Intel UHD 620 graphics handle everyday visuals. Windows 7 Professional 64-bit is pre-installed. WWAN capability adds 4G LTE connectivity for working away from Wi-Fi.

Straightforward setup with biometric login

Windows 7 Professional boots to a usable desktop in minutes. The match-on-chip fingerprint reader enrolls quickly and authenticates without a password. ThinkShutter covers the webcam with a physical slide. Thunderbolt over USB-C provides a single-cable dock connection for power, data and video. Bluetooth 4.1 pairs peripherals without a dongle. The 4-in-1 card reader accepts common media formats. No driver hunts are required for the listed hardware.

Suited to frequent travellers and office hot-deskers

The sub-2.9 lb chassis and 14" footprint fit airline trays and cramped desks. MIL-SPEC testing across 21 procedures supports durability in transit. WWAN keeps email and cloud apps online between sites. Buyers who want more storage or a dedicated GPU should look at something else. The 12 GB memory ceiling limits heavy virtualisation workloads. Windows 7 Professional reaches end-of-support sooner than newer editions. Touchscreen users will not find that option here.
