ThinkPad T480s with 24 GB DDR4

This 14.0-inch business laptop pairs an Intel Core i7-8550U processor with 24 GB of DDR4 memory and a 1 TB NVMe solid-state drive. The matte IPS panel shows 1920 x 1080 resolution without touch input. Windows 7 Professional 64-bit is pre-installed, and a fingerprint reader and webcam cover add physical security.

24 GB memory and 1 TB NVMe headroom

The 24 GB DDR4 allocation keeps dozens of browser tabs, Office suites and virtual machines responsive without paging. The 1 TB NVMe drive holds large project archives, local databases and OS images while leaving room for growth. Integrated Intel UHD 620 graphics and the 64-bit OS limit 3D workloads and modern titles, so sustained GPU compute will run out of headroom first.

Upgrade from 8 GB or 16 GB ultrabooks

Moving from a soldered 8 GB or 16 GB ultrabook removes the memory ceiling that forces constant tab management and VM swapping. The jump is worth it when daily workflows exceed 16 GB active RAM or when a faster NVMe drive cuts compile and load times. Buyers who need discrete graphics, Thunderbolt 3 eGPU expansion or a touchscreen should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

Will my existing USB-A peripherals work with the Thunderbolt 3 port on the T480s?

The Thunderbolt 3 port uses USB-C; USB-A devices need an adapter or hub. The laptop also provides four USB ports for direct connection.

How can I confirm the i7-8550U is hitting its 4.0 GHz turbo after setup?

Open Task Manager’s Performance tab or a monitoring tool and run a heavy single-thread load; the CPU clock should reach 4.0 GHz when thermal headroom allows.

Does the box include a 16 GB DDR4 SO-DIMM so the 24 GB total is 8 GB soldered plus one module?

The system ships with 24 GB DDR4 installed; the exact module layout is not detailed in the product data.
