ThinkPad T480s business laptop

The Lenovo ThinkPad T480s is a 14-inch business laptop with a 1920 x 1080 IPS matte display. It runs on an Intel Core i5-8250U processor with a base clock of 1.60 GHz and a maximum turbo of 3.40 GHz. The system includes 16 GB DDR4 memory and a 1 TB SSD. It ships with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.

Upgrade from older ultraportables

This model replaces earlier 14-inch ultraportables that used dual-core processors and smaller solid-state drives. The quad-core i5-8250U and 16 GB DDR4 make the jump worthwhile for users who run virtual machines, large spreadsheets or multiple business applications simultaneously. Buyers who need discrete graphics for 3D rendering or GPU compute should look elsewhere.

Thunderbolt 3 and connectivity limits

Two Thunderbolt 3 ports provide up to 40 Gbps bandwidth for external GPUs, docks or high-resolution displays. The remaining USB ports use older standards, so total throughput drops when legacy devices are connected. Bluetooth 4.1 supports common peripherals but lacks the range and speed of newer versions. The integrated Intel UHD 620 graphics limit external display resolution and refresh rate compared to discrete solutions.
