The Lenovo ThinkPad T480s is a 14-inch business laptop running Windows 7 Professional. It combines an Intel Core i7-8550U processor with 16 GB of DDR4 memory and a 512 GB NVMe SSD. The matte IPS display delivers a 1920 x 1080 resolution suited for office applications and travel.

Professionals needing legacy OS support

This configuration suits users who require Windows 7 Pro compatibility for specific software environments. The integrated 4G LTE WWAN module provides connectivity away from Wi-Fi networks. Buyers who need a touchscreen, a newer Windows version, or a larger display should look at alternative models.

512 GB PCIe NVMe SSD storage capacity

The solid-state drive uses the PCIe NVMe interface for fast system boot and application loading. With 512 GB of space, it holds the operating system, business applications, and a substantial working file set. Users planning large local media libraries or extensive virtual machines will need external or cloud storage.

Questions about this item

How is the 512GB PCIe NVMe SSD installed in the T480s and which step causes the most trouble?

The SSD sits in an internal M.2 slot that requires removing the bottom cover; the step most people miss is detaching the internal battery connector before lifting the mainboard to reach the slot.

What maintenance will the 16GB DDR4 memory configuration need later?

The 16GB is soldered to the mainboard, so it cannot be upgraded or replaced separately; only a mainboard swap would change the memory amount.

What limit appears first when the i7-8550U runs at 4.0 GHz under sustained load?

The processor hits its thermal ceiling and reduces clock speed to stay within its temperature envelope.
