Business laptop with 24 GB DDR4

The Lenovo ThinkPad T490 is a 14-inch business laptop running Windows 11 Pro. It combines an Intel Core i5-8365U processor with 24 GB of DDR4-2400 memory and a 256 GB PCIe NVMe SSD. The configuration targets professionals who need responsive multitasking and fast boot times in a portable chassis.

Sustained quad-core behaviour

The i5-8365U operates at a 1.6 GHz base frequency and can reach 4.1 GHz with Intel Turbo Boost across its four cores. Under prolonged workloads the processor manages thermal limits by adjusting clocks, so performance settles below the peak boost rather than maintaining it indefinitely. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 shares system memory for display output and light GPU tasks.

Thermals noise and power in daily use

The 14-inch FHD IPS touch panel runs at 300 nit brightness with an anti-glare coating and 45% NTSC colour coverage. Wireless connectivity uses Intel Wireless-AC 9560 with dual-band 802.11ac and Bluetooth 5.1. The compact design balances fan activity and surface temperatures during typical office applications.

Questions about this item

How loud or hot does the i5-8365U get during all-day use?

The quad-core i5-8365U runs at 1.6 GHz base and boosts to 4.1 GHz, so sustained workloads will spin the internal fan and warm the chassis, but the 14-inch frame and integrated UHD 620 graphics keep thermal output moderate for typical office tasks.

What must I already own to start working with this T490?

Only the included 65 W USB-C power adapter is required; Windows 11 Pro is pre-installed, 24 GB DDR4-2400 and a 256 GB NVMe SSD are fitted, and the Intel Wireless-AC 9560 handles Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.1 without extra hardware.

Will my older USB-A peripherals and external monitor work with the T490?

Yes — the laptop provides full-size USB-A ports alongside USB-C, HDMI and Ethernet, so legacy keyboards, mice, drives and 1080p displays connect directly without adapters.
