ThinkPad T490 14.0" Touch Ultrabook

This Lenovo ThinkPad T490 is a 14.0-inch touchscreen ultrabook running Windows 11 Pro. It ships new with an Intel Core i5-8365U processor, 16 GB of memory and a 256 GB SSD. The Full HD display resolves at 1920 x 1080 and supports direct touch input. Bluetooth is included for wireless peripherals.

Upgrade from non-touch or lower-spec models

The T490 replaces older non-touch ThinkPads or units with less memory and storage. The jump is worth it when you need the 16 GB capacity for multitasking and the 256 GB SSD for faster boot and load times. The touchscreen adds pen and finger interaction that standard panels lack. Buyers who want more storage or a discrete graphics option should look elsewhere.

Sustained workload behaviour

Under continuous load the i5-8365U maintains its base clocks while the thermal system manages heat within the 3 to 3.9 lb chassis. The single USB 3.1 Gen 1 port and HDMI output handle peripheral throughput without throttling. Fan noise rises gradually during extended compiles or video exports rather than spiking in short bursts. The 256 GB SSD delivers steady read and write rates once the cache is filled.
