Built for the mobile professional

The ThinkPad T490s pairs an Intel Core i7-8565U processor with 16 GB of soldered DDR4-2400 memory. Four cores and eight threads reach 4.6 GHz max turbo for responsive office multitasking. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics handles everyday visuals on the 14-inch 1920x1080 IPS panel. Windows 10 Home 64-bit comes pre-installed.

Capacity and headroom

The 512 GB M.2 2280 PCIe NVMe Opal2 drive offers fast boot and application loading for typical business datasets. Soldered RAM means the 16 GB ceiling is fixed; memory-intensive virtualisation or large creative projects will hit that limit. The 400-nit low-power display provides good outdoor visibility while preserving the quoted 20-hour battery target.

Deciding specification

The 16 GB soldered DDR4-2400 configuration is the single factor that defines upgrade flexibility. Buyers who anticipate heavier memory workloads cannot expand beyond this amount. A microSD reader and 720p IR webcam with ThinkShutter support portable secure login. The 65 W USB-C adapter keeps the charger compact for travel.

Questions about this item

Will the 65W USB-C power adapter charge my older ThinkPad that uses a rectangular slim-tip connector?

No, the included 65W adapter uses USB-C only and will not fit the rectangular slim-tip port on older models.

How can I confirm the 14-inch 1920x1080 IPS panel is running at its rated 400 nits after setup?

Use the built-in HDR calibration tool in Windows 10 Home or a third-party luminance meter to verify peak brightness reaches 400 nits.

Does the box contain a MicroSD card or do I need to buy one separately?

The box includes the laptop, 65W USB-C power adapter and documentation; a MicroSD card is not supplied and must be purchased separately.
