14-inch WQHD business ultrabook

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 5 is a 14-inch mainstream laptop with a 2560 x 1440 IPS display, Intel Core i7-7600U processor and 1 TB NVMe PCIe SSD. It ships with Windows 7 Professional, 8 GB of memory and an integrated 4G LTE WWAN card for mobile broadband connectivity. The carbon-fibre reinforced chassis weighs 2.49 lbs and meets 12 military-grade durability requirements.

Upgrade from older ultraportables or 1080p panels

The jump is worthwhile when you need a sharper 1440p screen, faster PCIe storage and built-in LTE in a chassis tested against 200 durability checks. Thunderbolt 3 over USB-C adds 40 Gbps data and dual-video bandwidth for docks or external GPUs. Buyers who want more storage, a touchscreen or a newer operating system should look elsewhere.

Straightforward deployment

Memory is soldered to the board so the 8 GB capacity cannot be increased after purchase. The SSD uses a standard PCIe slot and can be swapped by removing the bottom cover. Fingerprint reader and UltraNav pointing devices work without extra drivers on the pre-installed Windows 7 Pro image. Ensure LTE band compatibility with your carrier before activation.

Questions about this item

Does the 14.0" WQHD screen and 1TB NVMe drive fit in a standard 14-inch laptop sleeve?

The 14.0" 2560 x 1440 display and 1TB PCIe SSD sit inside a carbon-fiber chassis that weighs 2.49 lbs and measures within the 2–2.9 lbs range, so it fits typical 14-inch sleeves.

How do I activate the 4G LTE WWAN card, and what step do people skip?

Insert an active nano-SIM into the WWAN slot, enable the radio in Windows 7 Professional network settings, and install the Lenovo Mobile Broadband driver; the step most skip is the driver install.

When will the soldered 8GB RAM or 1TB NVMe SSD need replacement?

The 8GB memory is soldered and not upgradeable; the 1TB PCIe SSD is replaceable but rated for typical enterprise workloads, so plan SSD replacement only if capacity or health monitoring indicates wear.
