Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 5

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 5 is a 14-inch mainstream laptop built for professionals who need a durable, lightweight system with a high-resolution display. It ships new with Windows 7 Professional, an Intel Core i7-7600U processor and a 2TB PCIe SSD for fast storage. The carbon-fibre reinforced chassis passes 12 military-grade requirements and more than 200 durability tests.

Thunderbolt 3 USB-C limits

Thunderbolt 3 over USB-C delivers up to 40Gbps of data bandwidth and supports charging through the same port. The practical limit is the single port implementation, so only one Thunderbolt device or charging connection can be active at a time. Total throughput drops when multiple high-bandwidth peripherals share the bus. Buyers who need simultaneous Thunderbolt storage and external graphics cannot do it on this chassis.

8GB soldered memory constraint

The system includes 8GB of memory with no upgrade path, so multitasking capacity is fixed at the factory configuration. Heavy workloads such as virtual machines or large datasets will hit this ceiling quickly. Buyers who need more memory must choose a different platform.

What does the Intel Core i7-7600U up to 3.9 GHz mean for daily work?

The dual-core processor reaches 3.9 GHz on turbo, giving responsive performance for office applications, web browsing and light content creation within the 8GB memory limit.

What can the Thunderbolt 3 USB-C port actually do?

The Thunderbolt 3 port delivers up to 40Gbps data transfer, supports video output and charges the laptop through the same USB-C connector.
