ThinkPad X1 Carbon 5 i7-7600U

This new 14-inch ultrabook runs Windows 10 Pro on an Intel Core i7-7600U processor with 8GB of memory and a 500GB SSD. The 1920x1080 FHD IPS display is non-touch and the chassis weighs 2.49 lbs. It is built for professionals who need a durable, lightweight machine with integrated 4G LTE connectivity.

Mobile professionals needing always-connected

The carbon-fiber reinforced chassis passes 12 military-grade requirements and more than 200 durability tests, suiting frequent travellers. Buyers who want a touchscreen, more than 8GB of memory, or a larger display should look elsewhere because this unit has a fixed non-touch 14-inch panel and soldered RAM.

Thunderbolt 3 USB-C charging and 4G LTE WWAN

Thunderbolt 3 over USB-C delivers up to 40Gbps data and video bandwidth while also charging the system. The factory-installed 4G LTE WWAN card adds mobile broadband so the laptop stays online without Wi-Fi. A fingerprint reader and Trusted Platform Module provide hardware-based security for logon and encryption.

Questions about this item

Do I need a nano-SIM card and an active mobile data plan to use the 4G LTE WWAN?

Yes, the built-in 4G LTE WWAN card requires a compatible nano-SIM and an active carrier data plan to provide mobile broadband connectivity.

Can I connect my existing Thunderbolt 3 dock to the USB-C port for charging and peripherals?

The USB-C port supports Thunderbolt 3 at up to 40 Gbps, so a Thunderbolt 3 dock will deliver charging, data and video through a single cable.

How can I confirm the 4G LTE WWAN is working after I insert the SIM and boot Windows 10 Pro?

Open Settings > Network & Internet > Cellular; if the carrier name and signal bars appear and you can browse without Wi-Fi, the WWAN is active.
