Business touch ultraportable

The Lenovo ThinkPad X220 is a 12.5-inch business laptop with a capacitive touch display and active pen support. It ships with Windows 8.1 Professional 64-bit and an Intel Core i7-2640M processor that reaches 3.50 GHz turbo frequency. The system includes a 500GB solid-state drive and 4GB of DDR3 memory for responsive everyday performance.

Dock-ready connectivity

Three USB ports, VGA and DisplayPort outputs plus a dedicated docking connector let the X220 drive external monitors and peripherals at a desk. Gigabit LAN and 802.11b/g/n wireless provide wired and wireless network access. The shared video memory and single-channel memory configuration limit graphics-intensive workloads and multitasking headroom.

500GB SSD capacity

The half-terabyte solid-state drive holds the operating system, business applications and a moderate local file library with fast boot and load times. Four gigabytes of soldered DDR3 memory cannot be expanded, so heavy multitasking or large datasets will exhaust available RAM. Buyers needing more memory or a higher-resolution display should consider other models.

Questions about this item

Will the 4 GB DDR3 limit how many apps I can run at once?

The 4 GB DDR3 memory is soldered and not upgradeable, so heavy multitasking will hit that ceiling quickly.

Does the Core i7-2640M run hot or loud when it stays at 3.5 GHz all day?

Under sustained load the dual-core chip can reach its 3.50 GHz turbo, which increases fan noise and surface temperature on the 12.5" chassis.

What video cable do I need to connect an external monitor to the DisplayPort?

A standard DisplayPort cable plugs directly into the 1 x DisplayPort; the 1 x VGA port is also available for legacy screens.
