ThinkPad X240 ultrabook for mobile professionals

The Lenovo ThinkPad X240 is a 12.5 inch business ultrabook built for professionals who need a durable, portable Windows 8.1 Pro machine. It combines an Intel Core i7-4600U processor with 8GB of DDR3 RAM and a 500GB hard drive. The 1920 x 1080 FHD IPS touch display supports direct interaction for presentations and navigation.

Touchscreen and fingerprint reader change daily

The 12.5 inch touch display lets you tap, swipe and pinch directly on the FHD IPS panel, useful for annotating documents or demonstrating work to clients. A built-in fingerprint reader adds biometric login to Windows 8.1 Pro, reducing reliance on passwords. Bluetooth 4.0 connects mice, keyboards or headsets without cables. The backlit keyboard enables typing in dim environments such as aircraft cabins.

Carbon-fibre roll cage tested to MIL-SPEC standards

A carbon-fibre roll cage with reinforcement throughout the chassis is tested against eight parameters including vibration, humidity, temperature shock and low pressure at 15000 ft. Two USB ports and a single headphone/microphone combo jack handle essential peripherals without adapters. The spill-resistant six-row keyboard resists accidental liquid exposure during travel. Ultralight construction keeps the device easy to carry between meetings.

Questions about this item

Can the 500GB hard drive be replaced later?

The 500GB drive is removable and can be swapped for a larger HDD or an SSD using standard 2.5-inch form factor.

What stops the Core i7-4600U from running at 3.3 GHz continuously?

The 12.5-inch chassis limits cooling, so the CPU drops below its maximum turbo speed once thermal limits are reached.

How loud does the fan get during an all-day workload?

The compact cooling system spins up noticeably under sustained load, producing an audible whir that stays constant while the processor is stressed.
