Business ultrabook for mobile professionals

The Lenovo ThinkPad X240 is a 12.5-inch business ultrabook built for professionals who need a durable, portable Windows 7 Professional machine. It combines an Intel Core i7-4600U processor with 8GB of DDR3 memory and a 1TB solid-state drive. The carbon fibre roll cage and MIL-SPEC testing target users who prioritise rugged construction over maximum performance.

Sustained workload behaviour

The Intel Core i7-4600U dual-core processor reaches up to 3.3 GHz, but the ultrabook chassis limits cooling capacity during extended heavy loads. Expect thermal throttling during prolonged video encoding, large dataset processing or continuous compilation tasks. The 8GB DDR3 memory and 1TB SSD handle typical office multitasking and fast boot times well, yet the integrated graphics and thermal envelope restrict sustained high-intensity compute work.

Installation notes and common issues

The system arrives with Windows 7 Professional pre-installed, so initial setup follows the standard out-of-box experience for that operating system. Bluetooth 4.0 pairs with peripherals through the standard Windows stack. The internal battery is not user-replaceable without tools, and the soldered memory prevents RAM upgrades. Buyers who need more storage or a newer supported operating system should consider those constraints before purchase.

Questions about this item

How much power does the Core i7-4600U draw when the X240 runs all day?

The Intel Core i7-4600U processor inside this ThinkPad X240 is rated for a maximum turbo frequency of 3.3 GHz, which determines its peak power draw under sustained load.

What peripherals must I already own to use the USB and Bluetooth 4.0 ports on this X240?

The laptop provides two USB ports and Bluetooth 4.0, so you will need compatible USB devices such as a mouse or external drive, plus Bluetooth 4.0 peripherals like a keyboard or headset.

Will the 1920 x 1080 touch display and DDR3 memory work smoothly with my older docking station and external monitor?

The 12.5 inch FHD IPS touch screen outputs at 1920 x 1080, and the system uses DDR3 memory; both are compatible with legacy docks and monitors that support this resolution and memory standard.
