Lenovo ThinkPad X240 Business Ultrabook

The Lenovo ThinkPad X240 is a 12.5 inch FHD touch ultrabook built for mobile professionals. It runs Windows 8.1 Pro on an Intel Core i7-4600U processor with 8GB DDR3 memory and a 500GB solid-state drive. The carbon fibre roll cage and MIL-SPEC testing deliver ultradurable construction in a lightweight chassis.

Ideal for travellers needing a rugged touchscreen

Suits users who want a spill-resistant backlit keyboard, Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity and a 1920 x 1080 IPS panel in a compact form factor. Buyers who require more storage capacity, additional USB ports or a newer operating system should consider other options.

Straightforward setup with minimal configuration

Windows 8.1 Pro boots quickly from the SSD and recognises the touch display immediately. The integrated keyboard and touchpad work without extra drivers. The only common issue is the limited number of USB ports, which may require a hub for multiple peripherals.

Questions about this item

Will the two USB ports on the X240 accept the USB 3.0 flash drive I already own?

Yes, the two USB ports support USB 3.0 devices, so your existing flash drive will work at full speed.

Can the i7-4600U and 8 GB DDR3 keep up with a mechanical hard drive I might still use externally?

The processor reaches 3.3 GHz and the internal 500 GB SSD is much faster than a mechanical drive, so the system will not be held back by an external HDD.

How do I confirm the 12.5" 1920 x 1080 touch screen and Windows 8.1 Pro are active after first boot?

Open Settings > System > Display to verify 1920 x 1080 resolution and touch input, then check System > About for Windows 8.1 Pro edition.
