Portable business ultrabook with touchscreen

The Lenovo ThinkPad X240 is a 12.5-inch FHD IPS touchscreen laptop powered by an Intel Core i7-4600U processor with 8GB DDR3 RAM and a 128GB solid state drive. It ships with Windows 8.1 Pro and includes a backlit spill-resistant keyboard, fingerprint reader and Bluetooth 4.0. MIL-SPEC testing and a carbon-fibre roll cage target professionals who need a durable, lightweight device for mobile productivity.

Verify operating system and port requirements

This unit arrives with Windows 8.1 Pro installed; confirm that your software licences and peripheral drivers support this version before deployment. Only two USB ports and a single headphone/microphone combo jack are provided, so check whether your workflow needs additional adapters or a docking station. The 128GB SSD capacity may require external storage for large media libraries or local databases.

Sustained workload behaviour

The dual-core i7-4600U reaches a maximum turbo frequency of 3.3 GHz, but extended multi-threaded tasks such as video encoding or heavy compilation will trigger thermal throttling in the slim chassis. Fan noise increases noticeably under continuous load and surface temperatures rise on the keyboard deck. Battery runtime drops sharply when the processor remains at high utilisation for long periods.

Questions about this item

Does the box include the laptop, power adapter and battery or must any of those be purchased separately?

The unit ships as a complete GRADE-A laptop with Windows 8.1 Pro, Intel Core i7-4600U processor, 8GB DDR3 RAM, 128GB SSD, 12.5" FHD IPS touch display, backlit keyboard and fingerprint reader — no extra parts are required to start working.

Should I choose the i7-4600U model with 8GB RAM and 128GB SSD or look for a different CPU, memory or storage combination?

This listing is for the single configuration shown: Intel Core i7-4600U (4M cache, up to 3.3 GHz), 8GB DDR3 RAM and a 128GB solid-state drive — no other CPU, RAM or SSD options are offered on this page.

What does the 3.3 GHz turbo figure mean for everyday tasks once the machine is running Windows 8.1 Pro?

The processor can boost to 3.3 GHz for short bursts, so office applications, web browsing and video conferencing feel responsive, while the base clock keeps thermals and battery life in check during sustained workloads.
