External USB 3.0 dock accepts rugged RDX cartridges for fast, portable backup with Lenovo ThinkSystem servers
The Lenovo ThinkSystem RDX External USB 3.0 Dock provides a removable cartridge docking station for ThinkSystem servers. It targets IT teams that need fast, portable, and secure off-site or rotational backup without the complexity of tape libraries. The USB 3.0 host interface keeps deployment simple across supported platforms.
A rugged removable disk cartridge slots into the external dock measuring 2" high, 4.3" wide, and 7" deep, weighing 1.19 lb. The single USB 3.0 cable carries both data and power, so the unit sits on a desk or shelf without a separate power brick. Cartridge swaps take seconds, enabling daily off-site rotation or rapid disaster-recovery hand-off.
This dock replaces legacy tape drives in SR530, SR550, SR570, SR590, SR630, SR650, SR850, SR860, and SR950 servers. The jump is worth it when backup windows must shrink, media handling must be tool-less, or encryption and portability are required. It does not serve environments needing direct-attached RAID arrays or internal hot-swap bays.

The dock connects over USB 3.0, so the host link runs at 5 Gb/s signalling; actual cartridge throughput will depend on the drive installed inside the RDX cartridge.
The enclosure measures 2 inches high, 4.3 inches wide and 7 inches deep, weighing approximately 1.19 lb.
Connect the supplied USB 3.0 cable to a compatible ThinkSystem server, insert an RDX cartridge, and ensure the cartridge clicks fully into place — the locking click is the step most often missed.
