Portable backup drive for everyday users

The Lexar Echo SE is a 64 GB USB flash drive that runs automatic, continuous backup as soon as it is plugged in. It encrypts stored files and works with both Windows and Mac systems. The silver housing is designed for ultra-portable use.

USB 2.0 interface limits transfer speed

The drive connects through a USB 2.0 port, so real-world throughput is capped by that standard. Manufacturer figures quote up to 28 MB/s read and 10 MB/s write, which reflects the practical ceiling of the interface. Faster USB 3.0 hosts will not raise these rates.

Capless design with ready boost support

A sliding connector retracts into the body, removing the need for a separate cap that can be lost. The drive supports Windows ReadyBoost for system caching on compatible PCs. No external power or software installation is required for basic backup operation.

Questions about this item

Which capacity of the Lexar Echo SE should I choose for regular backups?

The drive provides 64 GB of storage, which is suitable for document libraries, photo collections and incremental system backups on both Windows and Mac.

What does the 28 MB/s read speed mean when I plug it into my laptop?

You can expect up to 28 MB/s when reading large files; the drive also writes at up to 10 MB/s, so a 1 GB folder typically transfers in under two minutes.

Is the USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 interface the limiting factor for speed?

The hardware supports USB 3.0, but the controller caps real-world throughput at the rated 28 MB/s read and 10 MB/s write.
