Lexar Professional Multi-Card 3-in-1 USB 3.1 Reader
This reader transfers files from SD, microSD and CompactFlash cards over a USB 3.1 connection. It reaches up to 312MB/s for SD and microSD media and up to 160MB/s for CompactFlash cards. Photographers and videographers who work with multiple card formats can consolidate their transfer workflow into a single device. The unit is backwards compatible with UHS-I cards at speeds up to 170MB/s.
Upgrading from single-slot or USB 2.0 readers
Replacing a single-format reader eliminates the need to swap adapters when moving between SD, microSD and CompactFlash media. The jump to USB 3.1 is worth it when your cards support UHS-II speeds and your computer has a USB 3.1 port, because the 312MB/s ceiling matches high-end card performance. If you only use UHS-I cards, the 170MB/s backward-compatible limit still exceeds typical USB 2.0 throughput. The reader does not add a second card slot for simultaneous offload.
Fitting into a workstation
The device plugs into any USB 3.1 or USB 2.0 port on a desktop or laptop, requiring no external power. It frees up a camera’s USB port and avoids the slower in-camera transfer path. A USB 3.1 host controller is needed to reach the 312MB/s SD and microSD ceiling; on USB 2.0 hosts the transfer rate will be constrained by the bus. CompactFlash UDMA 7 cards are supported at up to 160MB/s when the host allows.

Questions about this item
Does the Lexar Professional Multi-Card 3-in-1 USB 3.1 Reader need a separate power adapter or driver installation?
It draws power directly from the USB 3.1 or USB 2.0 port and requires no external adapter or driver installation on modern operating systems.
What is the correct way to insert a CompactFlash card so the pins are not bent?
Align the card label-side up with the connector holes facing the slot, then press firmly until it clicks; forcing it sideways bends the internal pin array.
Is the USB cable on the Lexar LRW500URBNA detachable for replacement if it frays?
The cable is permanently attached; if it becomes damaged the whole reader must be replaced.
