A 2.9 inch e-paper HAT for Raspberry Pi Pico shows 296×128 pixels in red, black and white without backlight, retains images after power loss and draws power only during refresh over SPI
The LORDWORLD 2.9inch E-Paper Display Module (B) HAT provides a 296×128 pixel red, black and white screen that plugs directly onto a Raspberry Pi Pico. It uses an SPI interface that needs only a few IO pins, leaving the rest free for sensors or other peripherals. With no backlight, the last image stays visible for a long time after power is removed, making it suitable for low-duty-cycle readouts.
Verify that your Pico has the SPI pins exposed and that your project can allocate the required IO lines for the display. The module draws power only during refresh cycles, so confirm your power budget can supply the brief current spikes when updating the screen. No backlight driver or extra voltage rails are needed, simplifying the wiring.
Because the panel consumes power only while refreshing, heat output is negligible during static display periods. There are no active cooling components, so the board runs silently in normal use. Overall energy draw remains very low, allowing extended operation from small batteries or USB power without thermal concerns.
