CF-to-IDE adapter for 2.5-inch bays
This adapter lets you install a CompactFlash card in place of a 2.5-inch IDE hard drive. It suits laptops or mini-ITX boards that still use a 44-pin IDE interface. The card then functions as a solid-state boot drive. No other drive types are supported.
UDMA speed depends on host BIOS and card
The adapter operates in True IDE mode and can run in UDMA mode, but only when both the notebook BIOS and the CF card support it. Without that support the link falls back to slower PIO transfers. Type I, Type II and Microdrive cards are all accepted. Jumper pins select master or slave configuration.
44-pin male connector orientation is critical
The connector is a special male 44-pin IDE plug; its pin-out side must match the host socket exactly. Buyers who cannot verify the connector orientation on their device should not purchase this adapter. No other specification determines compatibility.

Questions about this item
Which CF card types does this 44-pin adapter accept?
It supports Type I, Type II and Microdrive Compact Flash cards in fixed-disc mode.
What does "TRUE IDE MODE with UDMA" mean once the adapter is installed in a laptop?
The CF card appears as a native IDE drive, enabling UDMA transfers if both the notebook BIOS and the CF card support it, and the system can boot from it under Linux, DOS or Windows.
How does the 44-pin IDE connector limit the adapter in practice?
The special male 44-pin connector fits 2.5-inch laptop IDE slots only; it will not mate with 40-pin desktop IDE headers, so verify the connector orientation before purchase.
