SFF-8643 to 4 SATA cable

The Lordworld cable bridges a Mini SAS HD SFF-8643 host port to four SATA 7-pin drive connectors. It supports the 6 Gb/s Serial Attached SCSI specification and measures 50 cm in length. The connector design follows the SAS 2.1 standard and is forward compatible with the SAS 3.0 specification.

Suits RAID and JBOD arrays

Builders who need to attach up to four SATA hard disks or SSDs to a single Mini SAS HD controller will find this cable matches the 6 Gb/s link speed. It is not for systems that require a SATA host port or that use a different Mini SAS connector generation.

Deciding specification: 6 Gb/s SAS link speed

The cable is rated for the 6 Gb/s Serial Attached SCSI specification, so every attached SATA drive will operate at that maximum throughput. If the controller or drives only support a lower rate the link will negotiate down, but the cable itself does not limit the connection to a slower standard.

Questions about this item

What does the 6 Gb/s SAS specification mean for each of the four SATA drives I connect?

Each SATA 7-pin lane is limited to 6 Gb/s, so every attached drive can transfer at up to SATA III speed.

How does the SFF-8643 interface relate to the SAS 2.1 and 3.0 standards?

The SFF-8643 connector is defined in SAS 2.1 for 6 Gb/s and will carry forward to SAS 3.0 for 12 Gb/s operation.

What clearance does the 50 cm cable need inside my server chassis?

The 50 cm length requires enough routing space from the Mini SAS HD SFF-8643 port to four SATA drive bays.
