USB 3.0 to eSATA adapter

This cable connects external eSATA hard drives, solid state drives or optical drives to a USB 3.0 port on a laptop or desktop. It supplies DC 5 V power to the eSATA port so a separate power adapter is not needed. Transfer rates reach up to 5 Gbps over USB 3.0. The cable length is 1.0 metre.

Who it suits and who it does not

It suits users who want to access eSATA storage through a standard USB 3.0 socket without extra cabling. It does not suit buyers who need a pure USB 2.0 connection or who require an internal SATA-to-USB bridge for bare drives. The adapter works one way only, with the USB end attached to the host computer.

Deciding specification

The single specification that decides fit is the USB 3.0 to eSATA interface with 5 V power delivery. If the target drive uses an eSATAp port this cable will power and connect it; if the drive needs a different power arrangement or a different host interface, the cable will not work.

Questions about this item

Does the cable include a separate power adapter or does it draw power from the USB port?

The cable draws DC 5V power from the USB 3.0 port to supply the eSATAp connector; no external power adapter is included.

Should I choose the 1.0M length or is a longer version available?

This listing is for the 1.0M (3.28FT) length only; no other lengths are offered for this model.

Will I actually see 5Gbps transfer speeds when copying files to an SSD?

The cable supports up to 5Gbps over USB 3.0; real-world speed depends on the drive, host controller and file sizes.
