Converts USB to RS232 or RS485 serial using an original FT232RNL chip with TVS surge protection, self-recovery fuse, switchable 120R termination and status LEDs in a compact ABS case
This LORDWORLD development board converts a USB port to both RS232 and RS485 serial interfaces using an original FT232RNL chip. It targets engineers and hobbyists who need reliable serial communication with industrial equipment, legacy hardware or microcontroller projects across Windows, Mac, Linux and Android platforms.
The board is housed in a compact ABS enclosure that shields the electronics during bench or field use. Onboard transient voltage suppression, a self-recovery fuse and protection diodes guard against surges and electrostatic discharge. A hardware switch selects between RS232 and RS485 modes while a second switch enables or disables the 120R termination resistor on the RS485 line. Three status LEDs show power, transmit and receive activity at a glance.
The integrated protection circuitry and selectable termination make this adapter suited for noisy industrial environments where simple cables fail. It upgrades setups that previously required separate converters for RS232 and RS485 by combining both in one switched device. The jump is worth it when you need robust, switchable serial links without building custom breakout boards.

The board uses a USB 2.0 full-speed link, so the serial throughput caps at 12 Mb/s even though the RS-232/485 side can run faster.
The enclosure has integrated screw flanges with 3 mm clearance holes for direct surface mounting.
Slide the protocol switch to the 485 position and move the termination switch to ON; the RX/TX LEDs will confirm traffic once the USB driver loads.
