USB-to-TTL serial cable with FT232RNL chip, 3.3V/5V level switching, self-recovery fuse, ESD protection and three status LEDs
This USB-to-TTL serial cable uses an original FT232RNL chip to provide reliable UART connectivity for embedded development and debugging. It supports 3.3 V and 5 V logic levels selectable on the board, making it suitable for a wide range of microcontrollers and IoT modules. Three onboard LEDs show power, TX and RX activity at a glance. The compact sandblasted plastic housing protects the circuitry during bench use.
Windows 10 and 11 usually install the FTDI driver automatically, while older releases such as 8.1 or 7 may need a manual download from the chip vendor. On macOS and Linux the device appears as a standard USB serial port without extra software. The most common issue is forgetting to match the adapter voltage to the target board, which can prevent communication or damage 3.3 V inputs. A self-resetting fuse and ESD protection help survive accidental shorts or reverse current.
The FT232RNL maintains consistent throughput during long logging or firmware upload sessions without the drop-outs seen in cheaper clone chips. Onboard IO protection and anti-surge design keep the link stable when the target board resets or powers on and off repeatedly. The adapter draws power from the USB bus, so extended operation depends on the host port staying active rather than entering a low-power state. Buyers who need galvanic isolation or voltage levels beyond 3.3 V and 5 V should look for a different solution.

Watch the three onboard LEDs; they show power and signal-transmit activity so you can confirm data is flowing.
The cable includes the FT232RNL converter in a plastic case with a 6-pin header; you only need to provide the target device and a USB-C host port.
Match the switch to your board's logic level — 3.3 V for 3.3 V systems, 5 V for 5 V systems — to avoid damage.
