Ultra-Compact 40mm Navigation Tool

The Lowrance Mini Survival Compass ZWC3017 is a pocket-sized, oil-filled instrument built for hikers, campers and backpackers who need reliable direction finding without the bulk of a base-plate model. Its 40mm diameter and 0.5 cm thickness let it ride in a shirt pocket or attach to a strap, so it is always to hand when the trail turns vague.

Oil-Filled Rotating Bezel

The single specification that decides whether this is the right part is the oil-damped needle combined with a rotating bezel ring; the fluid steadies the card against vibration and rough handling, while the bezel lets you set and hold a bearing without mental arithmetic. If your navigation relies on a floating card without liquid damping or a fixed bezel, this compass will not match your workflow.

Sustained Field Reliability

Under sustained outdoor use the oil filling prevents the needle from sticking or oscillating excessively when you are moving fast over uneven ground, and the sturdy black housing resists the knocks and temperature swings that can crack cheaper dry-card models. It keeps settling quickly on north hour after hour, so you stay oriented on multi-day treks rather than only on short day walks.

Questions about this item

How does the 40mm size affect readability in the field?

The 40mm diameter keeps the dial compact enough for a pocket while still providing a clear view of the rotating bezel and cardinal points for quick bearings.

What does the oil-filled housing actually do for navigation?

The oil dampens needle swing so the dial settles faster and stays steady when you are moving, giving a more stable reading on uneven ground.

Will the 10.8 cm height fit in a standard shirt pocket?

At 10.8 cm tall and only 0.5 cm thick, it slides into most shirt or trouser pockets without bulging.
