LSI 12G SAS/SATA HBA Controller Card SAS 3008

SKU CH-XAWW-MAK3G

A 12G SAS/SATA HBA controller with Broadcom SAS 3008, PCIe 3.0 x8 and two SFF-8643 ports for internal storage connectivity

  • 12 Gb/s SAS and SATA throughput with Broadcom SAS 3008 controller
  • PCIe 3.0 x8 host interface for high-bandwidth connectivity
  • Two Mini SAS SFF-8643 ports supporting up to eight drives
  • Low-profile bracket included for compact chassis installations
  • Driver CD supplied plus downloadable drivers from 10Gtek

Controller and interface

This 12G internal PCIe 3.0 x8 HBA controller card uses the Broadcom SAS 3008 controller to provide two Mini SAS SFF-8643 ports for SAS and SATA connectivity. It ships with a driver CD, a low-profile bracket and a three-year warranty.

Who this suits

The card suits builders adding direct-attached SAS or SATA storage to a server or workstation that has a free PCIe 3.0 x8 slot. It is not for systems that lack a physical x8 slot or that require on-board RAID processing.

Deciding specification

The single specification that decides fit is the dual SFF-8643 port layout driven by the SAS 3008 controller, which sets the maximum device count and cable type for the deployment.

Questions about this item

How much heat and power does the 12G SAS 3008 HBA produce when running all day?

The card uses a PCIe 3.0 x8 slot and the Broadcom SAS 3008 controller, which is a low-power design intended for continuous server operation; no active fan is included.

What must my system already have for this HBA to work?

A free PCIe 3.0 x8 slot (or larger), two internal Mini SAS SFF-8643 cables, and SAS or SATA drives to connect to the two ports.

Will the SAS 3008 card work with my older 6 Gb/s SAS or 3 Gb/s SATA drives?

Yes — the controller supports 12 Gb/s SAS and 6 Gb/s SATA and will negotiate down to 6 Gb/s SAS or 3 Gb/s SATA speeds automatically.
