Connects up to 1024 SAS or SATA drives and 32 NVMe devices at 12 Gb/s through two SFF-8654 ports on a PCIe 4.0 x8 host interface
The LSI 9500-16i is a new Broadcom SAS3816 host bus adapter that connects SAS, SATA and NVMe drives through a single PCIe Gen 4.0 x8 slot. It suits server builders and storage integrators who need tri-mode flexibility without adding multiple controllers.
Two x8 SFF-8654 SlimSAS ports deliver up to 16 internal lanes, supporting 1024 SAS or SATA devices and 32 NVMe targets. Buyers who require more than two physical ports or external connectivity will need a different adapter.
The low-profile card ships with both high and low brackets for standard or dense chassis. Passive cooling relies on system airflow; no onboard fan is present and no separate power connector is required beyond the slot.

The 12Gb/s SAS rating gives each attached SAS drive up to 12Gb/s bandwidth, while SATA drives run at 6Gb/s and NVMe devices use PCIe Gen 4.0 lanes through the same ports.
PCIe Gen 4.0 x8 provides roughly 16GB/s of host bandwidth, which caps combined SAS, SATA and NVMe traffic to that ceiling even though individual ports can signal at 12Gb/s.
The package includes both a high bracket and a low bracket, so the card fits standard full-height and low-profile PCIe x8 or x16 slots with the appropriate bracket installed.
