Green low-profile PCIe card with eight Mini-SAS ports

LSI

LSI MegaRAID 9240-8i 8-Port RAID Controller Card

SKU CH-PFH5-6GAEM

Eight-port SATA/SAS RAID controller with PCIe 2.0 x8 interface supporting RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 10, and 50 via Mini-SAS SFF-8087 connectors

  • Eight internal ports simplify storage expansion
  • PCIe 2.0 x8 interface enables high-speed data throughput
  • Supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 for flexible data protection
  • Mini-SAS SFF-8087 connectors streamline internal cabling
  • Low-profile design fits space-constrained server chassis

8-Port RAID Controller for Servers

The LSI MegaRAID 9240-8i adds eight internal Sata and SAS ports through a single PCIe 2.0 x8 slot. It targets administrators who need hardware RAID on platforms that still use the PCIe 2.0 generation.

Low-Profile Card with Mini-SAS Connectors

A low-profile bracket fits space-constrained chassis while two SFF-8087 Mini-SAS headers keep cabling tidy. The universal compatibility claim covers servers and desktops that expose a PCIe x8 lane, so installation follows standard server-board layouts.

Hardware RAID Offload for Mixed Drive Types

The on-board processor handles RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 and 50 without burdening the host CPU, supporting both HDDs and SSDs at up to 6Gb/s per port. Power draw and thermals stay within typical add-in card limits for passively cooled server environments.

Questions about this item

What does the PCIe 2.0 x8 interface limit in practice?

The PCIe 2.0 x8 link caps throughput to the bus bandwidth, so eight 6Gb/s SATA or SAS drives share that ceiling.

What slot and bracket does the card need to fit?

It requires a PCIe x8 slot and uses a low-profile bracket for space-constrained chassis.

How is the MegaRAID 9240-8i installed, and what step is often missed?

Seat the card in a PCIe x8 slot, connect drives to the two SFF-8087 Mini-SAS ports, then enter the BIOS utility to create the virtual disk before the OS sees it.
