A 12Gb/s SAS and SATA host bus adapter with two Mini SAS SFF-8643 ports, PCIe 3.0 x8 connectivity and hardware RAID 0, 1, 1E and 10 support
This LSI host bus adapter adds eight internal SAS and SATA lanes through a PCIe 3.0 x8 slot. It targets server builders and storage integrators who need hardware RAID 0, 1, 1E or 10 without a full RAID-on-chip expense. The card requires driver installation from the supplied optical disc before use.
Two SFF-8643 connectors each carry four 12Gb/s lanes, so the single specification that decides fit is the availability of matching breakout cables or backplanes for your drive bays. The board is compatible with the SAS 9311-8I reference design and operates in IR mode for the supported RAID levels.
Under continuous load the SAS 3008 controller maintains 12Gb/s per lane across both ports, avoiding the throttling seen in burst-only designs. PCIe 3.0 x8 bandwidth keeps the host interface from becoming the bottleneck during long rebuilds or sequential streaming workloads.

Each connected SAS or SATA drive can run at up to 12 Gb/s, so the controller does not throttle modern 12 Gb/s SSDs or HDDs.
The x8 lane gives enough bandwidth for eight 12 Gb/s lanes, so the host bus will not limit the two SFF-8643 ports.
It plugs into a PCIe 3.0 x8 slot and provides two SFF-8643 Mini SAS connectors for drive cables.
