What the cable does

The LUOM Essager HCL100W is a USB-C to USB-C cable rated for 100W power delivery at 20V/5A. It carries an E-marker chip that negotiates the correct current with the charger. Data transfer runs at USB 2.0 speeds of 480Mbps. The L-shaped right-angle connector keeps the plug low-profile in tight spaces. Each pack contains two 3.3ft cables with a built-in LED power display.

The specification that decides fit

Maximum output is 100W under the USB Power Delivery 3.1 scheme; the cable will not operate as a USB 3.0 or 4K video link. A charger capable of 100W or more is required to reach the rated speed. Without such a charger the cable falls back to lower power levels. Buyers who need 5Gbps or 10Gbps data rates should choose a different cable.

Behaviour under sustained load

Aluminium housing, nylon braid and a 250d fiber core survive over 10,000 ninety-degree bends and 40,000 total bending tests. The E-marker chip reduces heat so charging efficiency rises to 80% and stability to 90% compared with 60W cables. In practical use a Switch reaches 90%, a Galaxy S20 96%, a MacBook Pro 86% and an iPad Pro 89% in 35 minutes.

Questions about this item

How much power does the 100W rating actually deliver to a laptop or tablet?

The cable supports up to 100W at 20V/5A. With a compatible charger it can charge a MacBook Pro to 86%, an iPad Pro to 89%, a Samsung S20 to 96% or a Switch to 90% in about 35 minutes.

What data speed does the USB 2.0 interface provide in everyday use?

The cable transfers data at up to 480Mbps, moving a 1GB file in roughly 30 seconds. It is not a USB 3.0 or 4K video cable.

How much clearance does the L-shaped connector need behind the device?

The 90-degree right-angle plug sits flush against the port, making it practical for tight spaces such as car mounts or desk corners while gaming or watching video.
