This PCIe 3.0 x1 card adds four SATA III ports to a desktop system. It targets builders who need extra internal drive connections without using M.2 slots or external enclosures. The Marvell 88SE9215 controller provides AHCI operation across all ports. A low-profile bracket and four cables are included for immediate installation.

Single-Lane PCIe 3.0 Bandwidth

The x1 link limits total throughput to 1 GB/s shared among the four ports. Simultaneous heavy traffic on multiple drives will saturate the bus before individual SATA 6Gbps limits are reached. Port 1 alone supports OS boot; the remaining three ports cannot boot an operating system. Windows 7 requires a separate driver while later Windows, macOS and Linux work natively.

Four Drives With Shared 1 GB/s Headroom

Four SATA hard drives or SSDs connect directly with the supplied 350 mm cables. Sequential transfers on one drive approach the SATA III ceiling, but concurrent workloads divide the 1 GB/s pool. The onboard heatsink keeps the controller within the 0 °C to 70 °C operating range. Builders needing hardware RAID or more than four ports must choose a different controller.
