A 0.40 mm Twister Micro-Tuff drill bit for precision pneumatic drilling
The M.A. Ford 305M0040 is a 0.40 mm pneumatic drill bit designed for precision hole-making in hard materials. It targets machinists and toolmakers who need consistent micro-diameter results in production or prototype work. The Twister Micro-Tuff geometry supports accurate chip evacuation at small scale. This accessory fits standard pneumatic tool holders used in high-speed spindle applications.
Conventional micro drills often deflect or fracture when run at the speeds pneumatic spindles deliver. The Twister Micro-Tuff design replaces those general-purpose bits when hole tolerance and tool life become critical. The jump is worth it when scrap rates on 0.40 mm holes exceed acceptable limits. It also reduces the frequency of tool changes in lights-out machining cells.
The 0.40 mm diameter handles fine-feature work in hardened steels, titanium alloys and composite stacks where coolant-through is not an option. It runs out when hole depth exceeds the flute length or when the workpiece material demands a coated carbide substrate not offered in this uncoated version. High feed rates beyond the flute capacity will also cause premature failure.

The drill has a 0.40 mm diameter shank; use a collet or chuck that grips this exact size.
Open the collet fully, insert the shank straight in, then tighten evenly — do not force or side-load the 0.40 mm section.
Replace it when the cutting edges show wear, chipping, or when hole quality drops below tolerance.
