M.A. Ford Twister XD 5X Drill

The M.A. Ford Twister XD 5X is a solid carbide drill built for precision holemaking in demanding materials. It suits machinists and fabricators who require accurate 12.83mm diameter holes with extended tool life.

California Proposition 65 Compliance

This product carries California Proposition 65 warnings for chemicals known to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. Standard shop ventilation and personal protective equipment address typical exposure during normal drilling operations.

Replaces Worn Carbide Drills

The Twister XD 5X upgrades from dull or standard-grade carbide drills that struggle with hole quality or tool longevity. The jump is worth it when a shop needs consistent 12.83mm results in tough alloys without frequent tool changes.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 12.83mm Twister XD 5X drill in my drill press and what step is often missed?

Chuck the solid carbide shank tightly, ensure the flutes clear the workpiece, and start at low RPM; the step most often missed is using a centre drill or pilot hole to prevent the 5×D bit from walking on hard material.

What maintenance or replacement will the 2XDSR5051A drill need after extended use?

The solid carbide cutting edges cannot be economically resharpened on site; plan to replace the drill once flank wear reaches the margin or when hole diameter falls outside tolerance.

What limit appears first when running the 12.83mm drill continuously in tough alloy?

Heat buildup at the cutting lips is the first limit; without adequate coolant flow the carbide will overheat, causing rapid edge breakdown and possible catastrophic fracture.
