Purpose & Audience

The Magpul ACS-L is a drop-in replacement buttstock for Model 15 and 16 carbines. It is built for shooters who want a slimmer, lighter package than the standard ACS while keeping a storage compartment and improved cheek weld.

Deciding Specification

The stock removes the battery tubes found on the ACS to reduce weight to 0.78 lb and 1.02 lb with the receiver extension. This single change makes it the right choice when a streamlined profile matters more than onboard battery storage.

Installation & Common Issues

Installation is a direct drop-in on compatible Model 15 / 16 carbines using the shielded release latch and chrome-silicon lock spring. The supplemental friction lock minimizes wobble, but the 0.30 inch rubber butt-pad must be seated correctly to maintain the anti-slip surface and impact protection.

Questions about this item

How does the 0.78 lb weight of the stock alone affect the balance of a Model 15 or 16 carbine?

At 0.78 lb the ACS-L keeps the carbine light and handy, while the sloping cheek weld and replaceable .30 in rubber butt-pad maintain a solid cheek weld and anti-slip shoulder contact without adding bulk.

What does the shielded release latch on the ACS-L prevent in daily handling?

The shielded latch stops snagging on gear or clothing and blocks accidental actuation so the stock stays locked at your chosen length of pull.

What are the 7.95 in maximum length and 2.17 in maximum width of the ACS-L, and will it clear a standard carbine buffer tube?

The stock extends to 7.95 in long and 2.17 in wide at its widest points; it is a drop-in replacement for Model 15 and 16 carbines and fits standard mil-spec buffer tubes without modification.
