Square-end concrete float levels and smooths surfaces before final finishing, reaching corners with a 12 by 5 by 11/16 inch redwood blade and 9 inch wood handle
The Marshalltown 44 Concrete Float is a hand tool designed to level and smooth fresh concrete before the final finish. Its square end profile allows the blade to reach into corners and along edges where rounded floats cannot. Professional masons and DIY renovators use it to prepare surfaces for troweling or broom finishes.
The float body is made from redwood measuring 12 in. long, 5 in. wide and 11/16 in. thick. At a weight of .9 it adds minimal fatigue during extended smoothing passes. A 1 1/4 in. wood handle with a 9 in. handle length provides a secure grip without transmitting excessive vibration to the wrist.
Because the redwood blade absorbs minimal water, the tool maintains its flatness and does not warp during sustained use on big slabs. The square corners stay true, so edge work remains accurate from the first pass to the last. The simple all-wood design has no moving parts to loosen or wear out under daily site conditions.

The handle is already fixed; no assembly is needed. The step users miss is wiping the redwood surface clean before the first use so wet concrete does not stick.
Rinse the redwood blade and 1 1/4" handle with water after every pour. Replace the tool when the 11/16" thick blade wears thin or the handle loosens.
The 0.9 lb redwood blade absorbs water and softens, reducing stiffness before the 9" handle grip becomes uncomfortable.
